HOWARD JAMES
ADA-Services for Arthur Howard James 89, Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, David Engle will officiate. Burial will follow at Swan Hill Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. James died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at an Ardmore Veterans Center. He was born October 14, 1918 in the Walker community, near Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Arthur H. and Jennie Lee White James.
He married Theresa Mae Tucker on August 28, 1981. He and his wife lived in Ada for 25 years. Mr. James was a welder at a steel company in Oklahoma City until his retirement. He was a member of the Chickasaw Nation and proud of his heritage. He was a strong supporter of tribal elections and participated in the political process. He and his wife were members of the Chickasaw Ada Senior Site and before their health failed, he participated in the Chickasaw Cats Band. He was a member of the Southwest Church of Christ and served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa James, of the home; one sister, Mary Mildred Ayers, Oklahoma City; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Pat Woods, Sulphur, Carolyn Claxton, Pauls Valley, Emily Gilbert, Phoenix, AZ, and Judy Ross, Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jennie James, his three brothers, Crudie, Leo Rufus and Frank Overton James, and two sisters, Almeda Engle and Juanita Crow.
Bearers will be Shan Woods, Steve Woods, Will Woods, Jerry Woods, Ronnie Lewis, and Billy Don James.
