ARTHUR A. GRISSO
ADA-Services for Arthur Andrew Grisso, 94, of Ada are 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Scott Young will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakman Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Grisso died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Veterans Center in Sulphur. He was born August 3, 1917 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Noah Homer and Cora S. Reed Grisso. He attended Seminole grade school and graduated from Stonewall High School.
He married Gladys Ellison on December 24, 1938. She preceded him in death on January 26, 2004. Mr. Grisso was employed in the shipping department with Brockway Glass Company. He was a member of the VFW Post #1202 and had served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He entered on December 16, 1946 and served for two years as a tank commander for Company B, 745th Tank Battalion in France, England, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia. In February 1944, he received qualification as a rifle sharpshooter. He fought battles in Ardennes, Rhineland and throughout Central Europe. He received the following decorations and citations: World War II Victory Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon and Three Bronze Service Stars; and in 1945, he received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle as well as the Bronze Star Medal.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Saunkeah and her husband Bobby of Ada; a granddaughter, Liliana Rose Saunkeah; a brother-in-law, Travis Ellison of Ada; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Bearers will be Ronnie Meeks, Steve Stick, Randy Ellison, Craig Sexton, Richard Poorman and Chris Grady. Honorary bearers will be Alfred Lee, Tom Landrith, Charlie Mayhue, Dick Scalf, Frank Jared and Luke Neely.
