ARLES WELLS

ALLEN-Services for Arles D. Wells, 91, Allen, are 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Allen Church of Christ, Mr. Tommy McFerran and Mr. Mark Legg will officiate. Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery. The Tinker Honor Guard and Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.

Mr. Wells died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at a Veterans Center in Oklahoma City. He was born April 28, 1918 at Glenco, Arkansas to John and Lora Mae Montgomery Wells. He attended Mammoth Springs, Arkansas schools. As a young man he joined the Civilian Conversation Corps stationed in rural Missouri and later the United States Army Air Corps. During World War II he served in the European theatre assigned to a photo reconnaissance squadron. After discharge from the military, he moved to Allen, Oklahoma, to work with his brother in the furniture repair business. Allen became his adopted home. It was here that he met Betty McCoy Ogle. They married on June 21, 1947 and he became father to her young son, Glenn. Together they raised four children. She preceded him in death on September 8, 1982. Mr. Wells was the first employee with E. C. Peay of Allen Campers, now Idle Time Campers, and a carpenter until his retirement. Like so many who grew up during the depression, he adopted a philosophy of hard work and generosity. He worked long after retirement as a builder, carpenter, and craftsman. He enjoyed wood working and restoring anything broken that could still be used. Arles will be missed by many his friends and remaining relatives, but most of all by his children, Arles R. Wells, Johnny R. Wells, Glenn R. Ogle and wife Sue, and Linda Bridges-Halcomb and husband Robert. He is also survived by grandchildren, Arles R. Wells, Jr, Paula R. Sankey, and April Marquand and husband Jeff; and great-grandchildren Dylan Sankey, Jessica Lee, Colby Lee, and Shelby Marquand.

He was a faithful member of the Lord's fellowship for over 70 years and in lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory to the Church of Christ, P.O. Box 315, Allen, Oklahoma 74825 is suggested.

Bearers will be Jeff Treat, Glenn Harrington, Otto Harrington, James Summers, Charles Vandeveer, and Jerry Edwards. Honorary bearers will be Bob Treat, Robbie Harrington, Robert Halcomb, Arles Ray Wells Jr., and Jeff Marquand.
