Services for Anthem Alene "Coke" Blackburn Borders, 94, of Denison Texas will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Allen Cemetery, Allen, Oklahoma.
Alene passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in Denison, Texas. She was born August 11, 1922 in Atwood, Oklahoma to Ira and Agnes Gardner Blackburn. She was raised in the Leader community and graduated from Atwood High School.
She married R.C. Borders in Allen on December 24, 1941, officiated by Brother Perry Blue. R. C. preceded her in death on December 31, 1994. During WWII, R.C. entered the Navy and served in Okinawa and Guam. Alene worked at the Naval Depot at McAlester, and was also a nurse for Dr. R.D. Morris.
After the war they returned to California for employment, and lived there for the next five years. In June 1940 they moved back to Allen, Oklahoma. Alene was employed by the E.C. Peay family for 32 years. She worked at the supermarket and the Allen Camper Manufacturing Company.
Alene loved people. Strangers were met with a hug, a kiss, and a "I love you". She had a special place in her heart for the young, old, or helpless. She touched the lives of all who met her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Agnes Blackburn; husband R. C. Borders; son, Donald Keith Borders; sisters, Zelda Morris, Janet Treat, Peggy Merriman; brothers, Boyce, Glenn, and David Blackburn.
She is survived by her sisters, Anna Hayes, Sue Osmond, and Margie Merriman; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bill Holman; grandchildren, Keith Borders, K. Alan Borders, Nora Nokes, Dona Fischer, Briana Shock, Aaron Holman, and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family expresses gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice for their special care, as well as a special thank you to Becky for always being there for Alene. The family appreciates Crawford Street Place and staff for their loving care.
