Services for Anna (Brooks) Grant, 88, of Long Beach, CA, formerly of Ada are 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Philemon Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Ronnie Amous will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Grant passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 at a Long Beach, CA hospital. She was born September 27, 1931 at Mamaronek, NY to William and Florence Davis Brooks.
Anna moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn, NY to provide a better life for her and her son. Anna completed high school at Manual Arts Adult School while working at the Mattel Toy factory. She received her License to Practice as a Vocational Nurse from Los Angeles Trade Technical College October 1, 1965. She received her degree of Associates in Arts in Vocational Nursing June 23, 1967 from Los Angles Trade Technical College. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Cal State Dominquez Hills in 1973.
She worked at the old County General Hospital and retired from the V. A. Hospital as a Registered Nurse. During her last years she volunteered to work in the hospice unit because she wanted to bring comfort to others. During that time, she met and married Walter James Grant January 24, 1981 in Los Angeles, CA. They moved to Ada where they made a great life for themselves. He preceded her in death January 12, 2013.
Philemon Missionary Baptist Church was her church home and she served there until her health began to decline.
Survivors include a son, James E. Frazier, Sr. of Los Angeles, CA; two grandchildren, Gina Brooks and James E. Frazier, Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and three women she always called her sisters, Annie, Geraldine and Dottie- The Frazier Girls.
Anna loved her church family at Philemon and leaves a host of good sisters and brothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings.
