AMOS SUMMERS
ROFF-Services for Amos Eli Summers, 92, Roff, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Folger officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Summers died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at an Ada hospital. He was born Nov. 5, 1922, to Eli and Iva Pearl McGee Summers at Stratford. He attended Prairie View and Dolberg schools and retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation after 32 years. He was a member of Roff Baptist Church and was a volunteer with the Roff Senior Citizens for 10 years. Mr. Summers served in the United States Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes Rhineland, Central Europe and was awarded five Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct medal.
He married Helen Dunno on August 27, 1948.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Summers, of the home; two sons, Jim Summers and wife Martha of Ardmore, and Ricky Summers and wife Dawn of Roff; one daughter, Donna Tharp and husband Ray of Ada; two brothers, Ray "Simp" Summers of Cushing and Delmer Summers and wife Sylva of Stroud; two sisters, Willadean Austin and husband Doyle of Shawnee and Pat Sanders and husband Kenneth of Stroud; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Allen Dwayne Summers; two brothers, Fred Summers and Lloyd Summers; eight sisters, Modell Hall, Bertha Moore, Beryl Summers, Elwanda Summers, Alma Raffety, Imogene Byron, Lillie Tolliver and Bessie Laseman; and one granddaughter, Melissa Lynn Reeves.
Bearers will be Jim Summers, Ricky Summers, Ray Tharp, Paul Walsh, Darrell Moore and Alvin Tidwell. Honorary bearers are Jeff Eldred and Ethan Guy.
