ALVA SHORTES

ADA-Services for Alva A. Shortes, 87, Ada, are 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Morris Memorial Baptist Church, Rev. Gary Jamar will officiate. Burial follows at Swan Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Shortes died on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at a local hospital. She was born October 16, 1923, in Moscow, Colorado, to Charles K. and Babe Marie Dunlap Hunt. She was a bookkeeper for Pontotoc Road Co. and retired as a bookkeeper from Cherokee Paving Co. in 1984. She later was a bookkeeper for Jane Muntz and Ruth Hunter. She was a longtime active member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church.

She married Stanley J. Shortes on June 26, 1942. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2005.

Survivors include three daughters, Pat McBride, Ada; Pam Clarke and husband Rocky, Washington, OK; and Rhonda Whisenant and husband Bruce, Ada; one son, Terry Shortes and wife Debbie, Ada; one brother, Floyd Hunt and wife Bette, Hutchinson, Kansas; one sister, Blanche Kenyon and husband Don, Hutchinson, Kansas; grandchildren, Michael McBride and wife Cherilyn; Kelly McBride and wife Karen; Lisa Laxton and husband Roger; Chris Whisenant and wife Tricia; Tim Shortes and wife Kristin; Philip Shortes and wife Stephanie; Shannon Smith and husband Brad; Lacee Andrews and husband Nick; Lindsey Myers and husband Casey; and Case Clarke; great grandchildren, Morgan McBride, Ryley McBride, Julie Sanchez; Kevin McBride; Christopher Laxton, Josh Laxton, Cameron Laxton, Kylie Laxton, Cole Whisenant and wife Victoria; Joei Whisenant; Cade Whisenant; Emily Shortes, Trenton Shortes; Jackie Perez; Hagan Smith, Gavin Smith, Brighton Smith, Nicholas Andrews, Cash Andrews, Bella Andrews; Madison Myers and Jace Myers; and special friends, Ann Lancaster and Jane Muntz.

Bearers are grandsons, Michael McBride, Chris Whisenant, Kelly McBride, Tim Shortes, Philip Shortes and Case Clarke. Honorary bearers are Bill Malone and Brad Lancaster.
