OMEGA JOHNSON
ADA-Services for Alpha Omega Landrith Johnson, 89, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Central Church of Christ. Bud Ross and Richard Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson died Friday, August 3, 2012 at her home. She was born October 6, 1922 in Ada, Oklahoma to Ernest and Atha Blackburn Landrith. She lived in this area all her life.
She married Doyle Desmond Johnson on December 25, 1941. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last December.
Mrs. Johnson graduated from Byng High School where her love of sports especially women's basketball began. She played for Bertha Frank Teague and became an All-state guard in 1939-40. After graduating she continued to support women's basketball and in 1976 became one of the original founders of the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-American Tournament that began in 1976. She served as President of the Board of Directors and the trophy to this day bears her name.
She was recognized for the dedicated service for Oklahoma Girls Basketball from the Oklahoma High School Basketball Coaches Association from 1988-1991. She was recognized by the Jim Thorpe Award Committee as one of "The All-Time Greats of Oklahoma Athletes" Girls Basketball Team for the decade of 1940-49.
Mrs. Johnson dedicated over 30 years to Ada Camp Fire Girls. She was involved in every aspect of the organization. She was known as Miss Omega and each summer she would help organize and direct the activities at Camp Adaka.
Her most important work was for her Church family at Central Church of Christ. She served for over 40 years from teaching Sunday School to serving grieving families.
Survivors include her husband, Doyle Johnson, of the home; son, Bruce Johnson and wife Nancy; daughter, Cindy Johnson Abercrombie; her grandchildren, Chris Johnson and his wife Amber, Lisa Wilson and her husband Derale, Jay Abercrombie and Angela Abercrombie; great grandchildren, Connor Johnson, Jalen Wilson, Jace Wilson and Jevin Wilson, Kylie Omega Colbert, Lily McCracken, and Keller Adkins Abercrombie; a sister, Ernestine Eubank; sisters-in-law, Nova Landrith and Wanda Landrith; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Herman Landrith, Paul Landrith and Leon Landrith; and sisters, Thelma Roberts, Stella Johns and Alma Sales.
Bearers will be Tom Landrith, Mark Landrith, Bobby Johns, Dave Roberts, Steve Blackburn, Phil Murray and Lee Murray. Honorary bearers will be Bud Blackburn, H. A. Blackburn, H. J. Blackburn, Don and Marge Butler, Beaux McGlothlin, Wanda Landrith, Nova Landrith, Steve and JoAnn West, Alberta Blackburn, Roger Burns, Ted Burns, Harrol Rhodes, Ernestine Eubank, Teena Ciarlo, Alan Reese, Wib and Jaunita Scroggins, Bob Tollison, Riley Young, Buddy Kessinger, J. D. and Amelia Branscum, Debbie Teal, Betty Murray and the extended family of Doyle Johnson.
