ALMA UMBER
PURCELL-Services for Alma Helen Umber, 88, Purcell, Oklahoma, formerly of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Vernal West will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Stonewall.
Mrs. Umber died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Norman Veterans Center. She was born March 31, 1922 near Piedmont, Canadian County, Oklahoma to Ulysses Grant and Frances Elva Cox Snyder. She attended Piedmont schools and graduated from Piedmont High School.
She served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, from March 10, 1943 until November 19, 1945. She was a "Waves" Radio Communications Specialist, 2nd Class. She married Dr. Harold Umber on August 30, 1966. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1989. Mrs. Umber was a beautician and a homemaker and a member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church.
Survivors include four nephews, Rex Umber and his wife Debbie, Purcell, Ray Umber and his wife Saly, Kalamazoo, MI, Roger Umber and his wife Wanda, Albuquerque, NM, and Loyd Umber and wife Charlotte, Sand Springs, OK; a niece, Mary Douglas and her husband Gary, Coweta, OK; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph and Ruth Umber, Watonga, OK.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother.
