Ruth Ashby

Graveside services for Alma Ruth Ashby, 87, of Ada, formerly of Allen are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Allen Cemetery, Bro. Ed Rutherford will officiate. Family and friends may call at the Allen Chapel from 4:00 p.m. Sunday until service.

Mrs. Ashby passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at a local nursing home. She was born February 17, 1930 at Ashland to David A. and Rettia J. Burris. She graduated from Allen High School. She and her family moved to Allen in 1944.

She married W. R. Ashby at Ft. Smith, AR. He preceded her in death October 31, 1992. Mrs. Ashby had worked as a cook at McCall's Chapel School for 18 years. She had also worked at Tinker Air Force Base for four years. Mrs. Ashby was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Laquita Johnson and her husband Delwayne, of Allen and Connie Keeling of Chickasha; her grandchildren, Kara Berst, Ada, Jared Johnson, Allen, Shanea Stringfellow, Loco, Brandon Stringfellow, Henryetta, Malacha Nunley, Marlow and Desiree Keeling, Chickasha; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Wright, Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Sherry Stringfellow; and two granddaughters, Celeste Keeling and Amber Keeling.
