ADA-Services for Alfred Joseph Katz, 86, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rabbi Vered Harris will officiate. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Temple B'nai Israel Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
Mr. Katz died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at an assisted living center in Ada. He was born July 10, 1927 in Ada, Oklahoma to Benjamin and Sadie Bardine Katz. He lived in this area all his life and graduated from Ada High School in 1945. He served in the U. S. Army for a brief time and later graduated from Oklahoma A & M in 1954.
Mr. Katz was a partner in Katz Department Store in Ada from 1954 until retiring in 2004. He was a former board member of the Home Federal Savings and Loan here in Ada.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Bryna Lane of Ada; a brother, Henry Katz and his wife Helen of Ada; a nephew, Ronald Lane of Ada; and nieces, Marsha Rothpan and husband Jeff of West Hills, CA, Beth Sherry and husband Mike of Prairie Village, KS, and Barbara Cobin and husband Todd of Woodland Hills, CA; his great nieces and nephews, Drew and Shayna Cobin and Leah and Gabe Sherry.
Bearers will be Jerry Carroll, Kenneth "Hoot" Gibson, Jim Hamby, Monroe Hodges, LaVonda Jones, Jim Matthews, Michael Millsap, Bill Montin, Melvin Moran, Benton O'Neal, Pat O'Neal, and Ron Thompson.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13 th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73104; or a charity of choice.
