Obituary

Memorial services for Abby Shoffner Milligan Barron, 71, of Ada are scheduled for Monday, March 28, at 2 p.m at Criswell Funeral Home.

Abby Barron passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022 at a local nursing home. She was born March 23, 1950 at Ryan, Okla. to William Hershel and Agness Ann Mitchell Shoffner.

Abby was blessed with two wonderful husbands. Abby married Richard Paul Milligan on July 11, 1969 in Ryan, Okla. Abby and Paul met during freshmen orientation at East Central State College in the fall of 1968. Abby and Paul owned and managed Sonic Drive-Ins in Louisiana for 12 years before they returned to Byng in 1990 to be closer to their families. They were active members of New Bethel Baptist Church in Byng, OK. Paul passed away in June 1992. Abby's brief return to Louisiana is remembered fondly by her daughter and her daughter's friends. She ultimately decided to settle in Byng in a house on the same property as her mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and George Milligan.

Abby met her second husband while working at The Ada Evening News. Abby married Richard Russell Barron October 12, 2004 at Moab, Utah. Abby and Richard said their vows at Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, in a ceremony performed by her daughter, Chele, and Richard's sister, Nicole. Both of their families were overjoyed by their marriage. Throughout their marriage Abby and Richard traveled and photographed the American Southwest with their dogs. Abby worked at Pre-Paid Legal Services in the Cash Report Administration until her retirement in 2015.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Barron, of the home; daughter, Dawna "Chele" Milligan Reeves and husband Thomas, Baltimore, MD; a sister, Gail Harris and husband Steve, Ryan, Okla.; a grandson, Paul Thomas Reeves; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and other loving relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Inez Larson and Gwyn Garis; her first husband, Richard Paul Milligan; her in-laws Dorothy and George Milligan; and her in-laws Joe and Sarah Jo Barron.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to PAWS of Pontotoc County or the American Cancer Society.
